I was poutie - its odd but its true - I had expected audience and there wasnt!

Ive been thinking about this reaction. in a way I feel very Victorian - the 'gentle reader' kind of thing. But when I think about it - and its difficult to articulate - I create my own sense of audience in my own head and so this 'audience' exists on several planes

1. my imaginary day dream of audience
2. my own reaction to my work and my thoughts
3. comments left here by other people

so 3. is only a part of my construct of audience.

To change the subject Ive started reading Robert Graves' The White Goddess and the catalogue of the Travelling Eqyptian Exhibition organised by the AFA in 2001.
Something that caught my eye - private statues often copied the statues of the reigning king but that his statues were not lifelike but used symbolic features to make him godlike in his image.

In a weird way it reminded me of having my photograph taken with an actor portraying an actor portraying a fictional charcter at movie world.

I love it!!!!

I explore the concept of the sign using the idea of the female and found materials.

The common need to find the human form intrigues me. Irrespective of the disparate nature of the materials available we have a desire to construct the human form. In my work I wish to push this thought: how abstract must the form become before we no longer find the human within it?

Landscape fascinates me; the sensual relationship between land and sky; horizon as form seeking line; both speak to the mythic structures of earth mother and sky father.
Two pathways beckon; the pieta and the landscape as female.

I am not sure if the females I create are icons or if they are fetishes.
julesinspacedancinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16684812221361620886noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8450624080202079052.post-10786752749762240172012-12-28T22:46:00.000-08:002013-01-02T05:03:01.912-08:00mining past posts
my tattoo - love that it sits on my back and that sometimes i forget
that i have it and the sight of it surprises and delights me again!

I
had been told that people rarely only have one tattoo - that the
marking of the body the first time leads to other markings - but I was
determined to have only my dragonfly. the mark that it is speaks of a
ending in my life - the end of my marriage and the loss of the husband I
loved. he chose to love another and in that doing became someone i didn't
know. My dragonfly marks that moment - the double edged sword again -
the loss balanced by the reclaiming of self, curious how that works!

When my sister started chemotherapy and I shaved my head so she wasn't
alone I discovered two things. the first that I love not having hair
and prefer not to grow it and secondly that i yearn a little for another
tattoo.

the one I want is different from the subtle and hidden
dragonfly - I want wings on the back of my head - I want the protective
wingsof Ma'at - the Egyptian goddess of the soul and the soul's journeying - wings to celebrate my self's survival.

After that thought - of bright and coloured Egyptian
wings curled around my skull from ears to the spine's summit I thought
of a tree - again a mythic image, Yggdrasil - the earth tree with his
roots at the base of my spine and his truck stretched to my head. the
power and force of natures strength, my strength made visible on my skin.

I don't know if I am brave enough to wear these markers but in my mind they are there.
It
reminds me of a friend I knew in my teens. He liked to get stoned, take
his clothes off and paint his skin - he would sit naked in a tree in
the rain and watch the patterns as they emerged on his skin. he told me
that sometimes he wouldn't paint but sit naked in the rain imagining the patterns that would be there if he had painted.

my full back tattoo is like that!!

All books, CDs. cassette tapes and DVDs are ordered alphabetically and it gives me a great deal of pleasure to see them so.

My hoarding is controlled but what about people who cannot throw anything away - not even the packets coffee beans are bought in - I understand and at the same time cannot understand that.

I know my mother was fascinated by this as well. As a small child she would recount to me books she was reading rather than read my bed time stories. Every now and then i find one of these books and its always curious making to try and work out why she read that book and why she recounted it to me.

the last one I found was called 'my brother's Keeper' by Marcia Davenport. In this two elserly brothers are found dead in a house filled with hoarded rubbish. One was killed when a pile of news papers fell on him.

I love these ((often less than)) simple things both connect me to and help me understand my mother!

Ive found my old blog and think to transpose it here. Reading through my old words and finding old images I would like to contain them within this space so I'll start moving them across this week.

It surprises me how much of what I've written still has relevance to what I think and do now. My collages have moved from wall mounted pieces to journal covers and I like that my work has become a personal journey.

I've been working on my jester's story for several years now and have produced 2.5 haiku and three collages - still a work in progress!
julesinspacedancinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16684812221361620886noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8450624080202079052.post-54492576288157057892012-05-07T15:48:00.003-07:002012-05-07T15:48:32.608-07:00Images to ponder

This is a random image from my drawings and the one I want to ponder this week. starting from the obvious; I am one of three sisters one of whom is dead. She was living when I made this image so I'm assuming it concerns the relationship between the three of us.

I am the oldest and it was and is my responsibility to look after my sisters

The cover for this journal is progressing.

I was unable to spray paint outside - its been raining so much I fear the ceiling may falter but it hasn't.

yesterday the sun shone so I got started on the fastening straps for the cover, I'm not yet sure how they will fasten but will wait until I attach them and allow them to tell me how best they fasten.

The long strips of cardboard came from one of the racks at Ikea when I was there with Marion and found them lying between the bales of disembodied furniture. I put them in our trolley but there was no charge for them.

They will be covered next with ripped vintage kimono silk and allowed to explain to me how they will fasten to the folder.

I have a passion for degraded corrugated cardboard - it sings to me and tells me of its need to be journal covers and folders. I find scraps of it on my footpath travels and bring them how - weather does extraordinary things to this material.

I still have some I found in Pompeii. After climbing a fence and rummaging between fallen rocks it embarrassed me a little in the gift store when snails fell out into the poster bin. Poor relocated refugee snails!

So here's the cover
Firstly, I have no idea what they are and what purpose they serve.

Secondly, now I have begun to notice them I see them more frequently. I'm not sure if that's because there are increasingly more of them or that now they have come into my notice I see them whereas before they slipped in a Foucaultian manner passed my awareness.

So I collected them and kept them on the table in my study by the other treasures of the gutter. Also I began to show them to people and ask if they knew what they were.

So far nobody knows but Tracey sent me this image in an email and Richard tells me they are used in packaging.
So I continue to collect them and ask for new information and also begin to weave meanings; possible meanings of their origins and functions and await enlightenment!
